Successful migration of the production environment at the Kleine Zeitung

The Kleine Zeitung, from the publishing house Styria Media Group AG, is THE regional daily newspaper for the regions of Styria, Carinthia and East Tyrol – and has been on the road together with alfa Media since the 1990s.

Therefore, a new virtualisation system environment has now been created for the alfa environments, based on Oracle hardware with the Oracle VM Server for x86 visualisation platform.  The alfa IT-Service took on this task and in coordination with Styria-IT set up virtual machines under Oracle Linux and set up a new Oracle database platform.

After the entire system had been set up by alfas IT experts, the new system was successfully put through its paces together with the Kleine Zeitung, so that the entire previous production environment could be migrated to this new platform on 01 December 2019.

“The migration went completely according to plan and without any problems,” says Erik Rieger, Director IT Services at alfa Media. The Kleine Zeitung was also very satisfied with the course of the project and the cooperation with the IT service experts: “alfa Media was able to excel, especially due to the challenge of carrying out such a complex migration in just 12-14 hours in order to have as little impact on newspaper production as possible,” says Rudi Raunig of the Kleine Zeitung.

After the Kleine Zeitung was successfully migrated at the beginning of December, this step is also planned for Die Presse in the first quarter of 2020. We are looking forward to hopefully many more joint projects.
